This notice is being posted to inform all past GFHC members of recent changes to the club. Due to numerous challenges faced by the GFHC, the decision has been made by the Board of Directors to join with the Ontario Trail Riders Association (OTRA). We consider this amalgamation to be a “win-win” situation for both clubs with the following advantages:
-
Continuation of equestrian events held in the Ganaraska Forest. In addition, OTRA has numerous events in other locations that will be available to past GFHC members wishing to join OTRA. Thus, membership to only one club is required instead of two clubs.
-
There is seamless coordination with the Recreational User Committee (RUC) of the Ganaraska Forest, where OTRA has long had a seat. Jim Pearson of Nessa Lee Farm will be the OTRA Local Area Representative and will attend RUC meetings representing all equestrian users of the Forest.
-
Continuity of the Volunteer Trail Clearing agreement with the GRCA
-
Reduced administrative burden.
There will be a “Local Area Committee” to organize the rides. There will be three rides in the Ganny for 2023, all to be based out of Nessa Lee Farm (2949 Challice Line, Millbrook) for 2023. There may also be a ride in the Northumberland Forest. The general format of the rides will not change – riders will still follow marked trails travelling at their own desired speed. An emphasis on education and trail etiquette will be maintained, with fun themes, and overnight camping will be offered.
We encourage you all to join Ontario Trail Riders Association.
