Riders leaving for the Summer Sizzler

The GFHC held the Summer Sizzler Ride at Cayuse Creek Ranch this weekend. 34 riders participated and several of them camped at the site for both Friday night and Saturday. Bob Coleman and Michelle Bignell, the hosts for the weekend, took out another ride on Sunday – a great way for people to explore the East section of the Ganaraska Forest.

The clearly marked trail on Saturday offered a nine mile route with an option to select a shorter six mile path. The Ride Marshall ensured that all riders left in small groups with a designated leader for each set of riders. Every rider had to check in on their return. We had a vet tech on site to show people how to check their horse’s heart rate and respiration at the end of the ride. (Thank you to Rob Wright for his time and teaching).

Thanks to Jim and Kathy Higgs we had a BBQ lunch served which seemed to disappear very fast! At the end of the day, Bob and Michelle arranged a camp fire and the campers gathered to tell horse stories. All in all, it was a perfect day in a lovely setting.

Maggie Harvey of Equine Canada came to see what we were doing and gave us some wonderful gifts. We were able to give prizes to the rider of the oldest horse (26) the youngest horse (4) and the person who had travelled the furthest to join us (from north of Bancroft!)

GFHC Board

Jun 042011

Despite the threat of rain, the Poker Ride went off in near perfect conditions. We had 48 riders out on the route and 18 new members joined the GFHC. Many of our members commented that this was a “great day” and the evaluations were very positive. A major thank you to the Poker Ride Committee – Board Members Caroline Thornton, Shirley Stapleton, Bob Coleman and Michelle Bignell. In addition we had amazing volunteers on the Committee – Virginia Harwood, Rick McVey and Denise Swartzentruber. Amanda Campbell rode the route to check for downed trees before the event and also acted as a Rider Chaperone on Sunday. Congratulations to Diane Bosnell who won the Poker Pot of $ 230.

Riders!
Our Annual General Members Meeting was a huge success. The guest speakers were informative, well spoken and presented amazing topics. Thanks again to Kate, Kathy and Jess!

The club passed three new amendments to the constitution, elected a new executive board -congratulations to all, and a big announcement was made on behalf of the GRCA and the GFHC.

Nothing kept the dancing shoes off these folks as they enjoyed Cruise Night in Millbrook last night.  Door prizes, a very successful silent auction, a buffet meal and great music filled the night.  Thanks everyone for attending and supporting the club.  What a great night!
