The GRCA has extended an invitation for the horse club to build a secure horse paddock on the Ganaraska Forest Center (GFC) grounds at the head of the trails. Horse riders are encouraged to ride from the horse trailer parking lot following NEW signage that will direct them to the Forest Center.
There will be hitching rails inside the horse paddock. Therefore, you will have the convenience of using the horse paddock with your horse in view, while using the amenities at the forest center.
Maintenance and care of the horse paddock will be done by the GFHC and we are supplying a wheel barrow and fork to allow riders to clean up after their horse’s visit.
The Canteen is open on weekends and the GFHC is encouraging everyone to support this venue. There are flush toilets, showers and change rooms. Plus the new Forest Center is open to the public.
From the GFC grounds, riders will be able to follow the marked yellow, blue and orange loops and at certain intersections be directed back to the horse trailer parking lot along the way with new signage once again.
We truly hope ALL equestrians will take advantage of this great opportunity.
As well, improvements to the horse drinking pond at the horse trailer parking lot will be made this season.
A well tile and/or dredging will occur to try and improve the depth of the water and help maintain the water level for the summer.
These improvements will be funded with the annual $1,000 donation the GRCA this year.
The forest officially opens May 1st, 2011 and riders are encouraged to use all sections of the forest. Please note that west and east forest are multi use trails. Detailed maps are available at the forest center for all three sections of the forest.
For more information please contact either the GRCA info@grca.on.ca or the horse club gfhc-1@live.ca.
Happy trails everyone and see you out there!
